Synopsis and Discussion

An oppressive heat wave continues to blanket the Triad today, with elevated dewpoints inhibiting ozone production. Some isolated showers and storms may formulate in the higher elevations this afternoon, but skies should largely remain mostly sunny throughout the afternoon to elevate ozone and particle pollution AQI into the lower Code YELLOW range. The heat wave continues into tomorrow as the upper level ridge begins to retrograde west, providing favorable support for expanding the area for chances of showers and storms across the whole of the Triad. With that said, little change in persistent Code YELLOW AQI is expected for both ozone and particle pollution for Wednesday. Maximum temperatures decrease through the end of the week, but the air mass will continue to remain very hot and humid. Slight chances of afternoon showers and storms should also remain a threat each day, with air quality levels continuing to remain in the lower Code YELLOW range into the weekend. (Payne) ***A HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY. FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE VISIT https://www.weather.gov/rah ***
