Help Tanglewood Park Restore the Lake

Tanglewood Park employees, along with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, recently completed a sampling of the fish species in Mallard Lake and discovered that the lake is overpopulated with large mouth bass. They also discovered that smaller forage fish such as blue gill and crappie are almost non existent.

Tanglewood Park is asking anglers to follow NC Wildlife Resources Commission Regulations by removing any bass under 14” in length. The current daily limit for bass is two per day under 14” in length. We also ask that all fish of the sunfish species caught be returned to the lake.

To help resolve the overpopulation issue, Tanglewood Park is in the process of creating fishing trails and fishing clearings around the wooded portions of the fishing lakes. Another measure implemented in 2008, was to stock Mallard Lake with over ten thousand forage fish of the sunfish species.

Fishing is allowed in Tanglewood Park year-round from 7 AM to dusk. Fishing permits can be purchased at the front gate and costs $1.50 per day or $30.00 annually. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.
