As the Growing Season Begins . . .

As the heart of the growing season begins, the Forsyth County Public Library in partnership with the Forsyth County Extension Service are proud to offer a series of programs designed to help you get the most out of your home and garden projects this year.

Programs will last 1 to 11/2 hours, and are given primarily in lecture format but with plenty of time for questions. Programs are presented by Master Gardener Volunteers and Extension Agents of Forsyth County Cooperative Extension. Contact your local Branch Library for full details.

Backyard Chickens

Small chicken flocks of 5-10 birds are becoming increasingly popular to provide fresh meat and eggs. This lecture will explore different varieties of chickens and their purposes, poultry nutrition, housing and predator prevention.

Learn the safe way to properly can low-acid and high-acid foods, when to use the pressure canner method and when it is safe to use the boiling water bath canning method. Learn the most effective ways to freeze foods.

This presentation will give you lots of tips on establishing a fall vegetable garden. We will take a look at what does well in the fall and early winter and what varieties work well in the Piedmont.
