Change in Availablity of Free Vaccines for Children

Effective November 1, 2010 vaccines will be available free of charge only for those children, birth through 18 years of age, who meet the following criteria:

  1. have Medicaid,
  2. are American Indian or Alaskan Native,
  3. are uninsured, OR
  4. have insurance which does not cover the full cost of vaccinations.

For children who are fully insured or have NC Health Choice insurance coverage, there will be a charge for all vaccines, including those required by NC Immunization Law. At this time, Forsyth County Department of Public Health is not able to bill either private insurance or NC Health Choice. Therefore, these children will either be charged at the time vaccines are administered, or they may be seen at their private provider’s office where the vaccines can be billed to their insurance company. We hope to be able to establish a billing system within the next few months and apologize for any inconvenience in the interim.
