Public Health Director Announces Retirement

Dr. Linda Petrou, Chair of the Forsyth County Board of Health, announced today that Dr. Tim Monroe, Forsyth County Health Director, has submitted to her, notice of his intent to retire from his position effective January 10, 2011. Dr. Monroe has held the position for approximately 9 ½ years since June 1, 2001. He had previously served as the Health Director for Pitt County, NC and has served in the public health systems of South Carolina and Kansas.

“Dr. Monroe has been a passionate advocate of public health throughout his long career” Petrou said. “On a personal note, while we often disagreed on philosophical approaches I had, and have, tremendous respect for Dr. Monroe.” “I will miss working with him and having the benefit of his guidance.”

The Board of Directors appreciates Dr. Monroe’s willingness to help ensure a smooth transition. A called meeting of the Board of Directors will be held in the coming weeks to appoint an acting director. In addition, the Board will be working with the Forsyth County Human Resources Department to advertise nationwide for the position of Health Director. The Board will also work closely with the acting director, once one has been named.

The Board wants to publicly thank Dr. Monroe for his long years of service to the residents of Forsyth County and wants to assure the employees of the Department of Health that we will do all in our ability to ensure a smooth transition.
