Rabies Vaccination Clinic this Saturday!

Forsyth County is once again conducting the Spring Low-Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic.

Date: April 9, 2011
Time: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Location: Dixie Classic Fairgrounds
Cost: $5.00 for each pet

This year there have been 5 reported rabies cases test positive. In 2008, Forsyth County had 31 rabies cases test positive which is more than double the average number of cases seen in the last four years. Forsyth County responded to this issue with a record number of rabies vaccinations at 2011 area clinics.

Rabies is a preventable disease of mammals most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. That is because rabid animals have the disease in their saliva or drool. If rabies enters the body, it attacks the brain and spinal cord.

We will have information on hand about pet licensing. Forsyth County Code 6-10 – requires both cats and dogs to be registered with Forsyth County Animal Control. Licensing fees are $5 for an altered pet, $25 for unaltered dogs and cats. Spaying and neutering our pets has many benefits. In addition to reduced licensing fees, altered pets are less likely to roam. It can curtail aggression, reduce unwanted marking and increase our pet’s ability to lead a calm and healthy life.
