2011 Step Up Forsyth Results

The 2011 Step Up Forsyth program concluded Saturday, November 12, 2011 with a total of 94 teams and 1,506 participants. Thirty-five percent of participants (521 people) completed the program and turned in their activity logs for a grand total of 1,269,917 minutes of physical activity logged. Way to go! The goal set for Step Up Forsyth 2011 was to recruit 100 teams, have at least 1,500 participants and log 1.5 million minutes of physical activity time. We are pleased that we met one of the three ambitious goals set for the program.

Step Up Forsyth aims to improve quality of life through increased physical activity. Participants may engage in physical activity on their own, as a family or through clubs, worksites, faith-based institutions, senior centers as a team.

Engaging in regular physical activity not only reduces a persons risk for developing chronic health conditions but also helps people that have a chronic health condition better manage their disease.

Most adults do not get the recommended amount of physical activity (30 to 60 minutes/day). However, since 2001 there has been a statistically significant increase in the percentage of North Carolina adults getting the recommended amount of physical activity. As of 2009, over 46% of adults engaged in the recommended level of physical activity compared to 42% in 2001. (Source: 2009 NC Behavioral Risk Surveillance System Survey).
