Register of Deeds In-House Initiative Saves the County $656,678.00

By the end of May 2013, the Register of Deeds office will have completed the in-house project of redaction (removal of Social security and driver’s license numbers) from public online records back to 1950, which is when these numbers began to appear on official records.

This project was started in February 2010 by the ROD staff. Each employee would work on redacting a real estate book as time allowed from every day duties. Over 2,300 books with an average of over 2,700 pages per book were looked at and redacted. This in house initiative saved the County taxpayers $656,678.00 (Price quoted by a vendor to redact the records for us).

Even though these records were thoroughly looked over by the ROD staff, there is always the possibility of human error. You can access your records at www.forsythdeeds.com and check to ensure all of these numbers were removed from your personal records. You will be able to access these records free. Just type your name in the name search field and all of your real estate records on file in our office will be available for you to view. If you have any trouble searching your records feel free to call our office at (336) 703-2700 from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm M-F. Our staff will be happy to walk you through a search. If you should find numbers that weren’t caught during our redaction period please call our office and ask us to remove the information that you have found.
