Scale Certification to Take Place Wednesday March 2

Those that sell produce and other items by weights must have their scales certified each year. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture will be certifying weigh scales on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Forsyth Cooperative Extension office located at 1450 Fairchild Rd. in Winston-Salem. Scales need to be NTEP approved to be legal for use in North Carolina to comply with laws dictated by the NC Department of Agriculture.

The Measurement Section inspects weighing and measuring devices for accuracy (scales, scanners, motor fuel dispensers, fuel oil meters, and many other devices) and performs inspections of packaged goods to ensure that they contain the stated net contents.

NC Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be here to certify farmers market a vendor scale which is required every year. Stop by with your scales. Attach a sticky note with the county you live in, your name, address and phone number to each scale that you want to have certified. There is no charge for this service.
