Consolidated Human Services Board Holds First Retreat

The Forsyth County Consolidated Human Services (CHS) Board held its first strategic board retreat on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The CHS Board was formed in July and combines the former boards of Public Health and Social Services with some additional members with various required expertise. Its membership includes Commissioners Gloria Whisenhunt and Fleming El-Amin, both of whom participated in the morning-long retreat at the Forsyth County Government Center.

The retreat allowed the new board to clarify its powers, duties and operational context. It also laid the foundation for the board to begin working over the next year to develop a strategic plan for Human Services, including mission and vision statements as well as goals and objectives.

Aimee Wall and Margaret Henderson from the UNC School of Government were the retreat’s guest presenter and facilitator respectively. CHS Board members gained an understanding of the basics of strategic planning and broke out into small groups to discuss where they see the CHS Board and agency thriving in the future and what next steps they would like to take as a board.
