Cooling Crisis Assistance Available from Social Services

The Department of Social Services has funding left in the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) to assist families experiencing an energy crisis and need help cooling their homes through June 30.

CIP assists families that are having a heating or cooling related crisis in their homes. Crisis is defined as a person who is experiencing, or is in danger of experiencing, a life-threatening or health-related emergency.

Situations that may qualify for help include households facing a disconnection within five days on their primary cooling source, and the temperatures are 93 degrees or higher; or the household has members aged 60 years or older, 5 years or younger, or who have a health-related condition that could be life-threatening due to the temperature.

The current CIP funding will last through the end of June and will be renewed in July with services lasting until all the funds are used.

For more information, call (336) 703-3800 or visit Forsyth County DSS at 741 North Highland Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday through Friday.
