Farm City returns to Forsyth County!

Farm City Week returns to Forsyth County this October 14-19, 2019 to showcase what our county and land grant institutions have to offer. Farm City Week is a weeklong celebration of the North Carolina farmers who work tirelessly year round to produce food and agricultural products for our county. North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center, hosts this special event every autumn in an effort to educate the community by bringing the universities, NC State University and N.C. A&T State University, to the people with tours, speakers, and interactive opportunities.

Farm City Week 2019 will kick off with a welcome luncheon on October 14, followed by a day at N.C. A&T University and other locations in the Triad area on October 15, then a day of local tours in Forsyth County on October 16. On October 17, Farm City Week will host their annual banquet dinner, including the kickoff for the Farm City photo contest. Visitors will get a chance to explore N.C. Cooperative Extension’s work in Forsyth County while enjoying a dinner with speaker Janie Foltz who will talk about gardening with herbs. If you cannot make it to the weekday events, there will also be a weekend community garden tour on the October 19, which will feature three innovative community gardens. All Farm City events are free of charge to residents of Forsyth County. Registration is required for all events and activities, and more details on each day and how to register can be found at go.ncsu.edu/FCFarmCity2019.

Cooperative Extension is an outreach of the public land-grant universities across the country. In North Carolina, through Extension activities, the research and resources of N.C. State University and N.C. A&T State University are extended into the community to help empower people to improve their lives. N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center, has programs in Agriculture including agronomic crops, small farms, livestock, the green industry, community gardening, urban agriculture and consumer horticulture; Natural Resources; Family and Consumer Sciences including foods, nutrition, parenting, home and financial management; Youth Development, better known as 4-H and Community Development.

Accommodation requests related to a disability should be made at least 10 days prior to the event by contacting Kim Gressley, County Extension Director, at (336) 703-2850 or by email at ksgressl@ncsu.edu.
