State holds Advanced Managers Training at Forsyth County Government Center

N.C. Office of Human Resources conducted an Advanced Skills for Managers training last week at the Forsyth County Government Center.

This advanced level development course for supervisors, managers and directors is normally only conducted in Raleigh. This is the third time this training has been conducted in Forsyth County, which is the only other place it’s been held.

The training provides participants with strategies to improve their leadership. It is done in three two-day classroom sessions that are held two weeks apart, giving participants an opportunity to use what they’ve learned between sessions.

The training class was comprised of participants from state government as well Forsyth and Guilford county governments. Forsyth County Assistant Public Health Director Denise Price said the training was well worth the time and investment.

“It has opened my eyes to the things I can do to help my team to excel and be more highly functional,” she said. “It helps us understand who we are and what we bring to the table, and how to use our personalities to enhance what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Cpt. David Pruitt with Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said it’s been an enriching experience, both for the curriculum and for what he learned from those in the class. “You learn from the group as much as you learn from the presentation,” he said.

Forsyth County Human Resources Director Shontell Robinson said the class lets participants learn from each other in unique ways. She said it was an eye-opening experience.

“I’m learning a lot about myself and my leadership skills and how it may positively or negatively impact the team,” she said.

Robinson said she was grateful that Linda Gaskins, Forsyth County Sr. Talent and Development Consultant, coordinated with the State to bring this wonderful training to Forsyth County.

Training participants came from the N.C. Departments of Labor and Public Safety, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and Department of Health and Human Services, and the Forsyth County Departments of Human Resources, Budget, Social Services and Public Health. N.C. Human Resources’ Kristy Main was the facilitator for the training.
