ACCREDITATION ASSESSMENT TEAM INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), will arrive March 2, 2020 to examine all aspects of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. announced today. As part of a voluntary process to demonstrate public safety professional excellence, the assessment team is responsible for verifying that the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office meets the Commission's state-of-the-art standards.

Agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on March 3 at 5:30 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Press Room of the Forsyth County Public Safety Center located at 301 North Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

Those who are unable to attend the public information session but would like to provide comments to the CALEA assessment team, may call 336-917-7170 on March 3 between the hours of 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Comments in person or by phone will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA Standards.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is required to comply with 415 very specific professional standards in order to maintain accredited status. Reaccreditation is an extensive and rigorous process. Successful completion of the process demonstrates that the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office policies, practices and procedures remain consistent with the highest levels of law enforcement professionalism.

The accreditation cycle lasts four years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports and maintain electronic files demonstrating continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has been a CALEA accredited agency since 2010.
