Forsyth County Success Story: Glenda Dancy

Forsyth County Assistant Health Director Glenda Dancy says making a difference in her community is what makes her job so rewarding.

“This is where you can truly make an impact in people’s lives,” said Dancy.

Dancy entered the nursing field as a way to support her three young children. She graduated Forsyth Technical Community College in 2003 with an Associates Degree in Nursing and became a labor and delivery nurse at Forsyth Medical Center.

As her children grew older and started school, she wanted a job with more routine hours where she could have nights, weekends or holidays to spend with her family. This lead her to join Forsyth County Public Health in 2008, working as a Maternity Care Coordinator in the Baby Love Nurse program and also as a school nurse.

Dancy was a teen mom who had benefited from the Baby Love Nurse program in high school. She felt she’d come full circle, being able to help young women who had been in her situation.

She climbed through the ranks at the Health Department, becoming a Nursing Supervisor in 2010. She then became a Care Management Program Manager in 2013, overseeing the Pregnancy Care Management program, Mental Health Court, Care Coordination for Children, Nurse-Family Partnership (a program that helps first-time mothers) and Stepping Up (which helps people with substance use or mental health issues)

In 2016, she was promoted to Assistant Health Director. Dancy said she’s able to address gaps in the system that prevent people from accessing needed healthcare and bring programs to our community to help those in need. She’s able use her experience as a mother, nurse and health care administrator to make an impact on Forsyth County.

“This is my hometown,” said Dancy. “This is my city and my people. Being able to give back and make a difference in my community is what keeps me here.”
