Burn Ban Issued

On November 29, 2021, at 5 pm, the North Carolina Forestry Service issued a burning ban for all North Carolina counties. This burn ban includes all open burning and cancels all burn permits until further notice.

The Forsyth County Fire Marshal has joined with the North Carolina Forestry Service to further include the ban on open burning within 100' of any dwelling.

This statewide and Forsyth County ban includes all open burning which is the burning of leaves, branches, and other plant material. In all cases, the burning of trash, lumber, tires, newspaper, plastics, or other nonnegative material is illegal as normal. This ban also prohibits campfires.

This burn ban does not include grills, barbecues, or contained commercial fire pits for warmth or cooking.

This burn ban has become necessary due to the current dry conditions in our area which can lead to the increased risk of fires starting and spreading quickly.

The Forsyth County Emergency Services- Fire Division will be working with local fire departments and law enforcement to assist the North Carolina Forest Service in enforcing the burn ban.
