Rain Water Harvesting: Small Scale Applications

Rainwater harvesting has multiple benefits including water conservation, the potential to lower water bills, a chemical-free source of water for flower and vegetable gardens, and the potential to reduce water pollution of our streams and rivers through stormwater runoff reduction. Join Phyllis Baker Smith, Natural Resources and Environmental Systems Agent, as she discusses design features, installation, safety considerations, and care and maintenance of rain barrels and small cisterns. A PowerPoint presentation will be followed by a short tour of the Forsyth County Extension Center Demonstration Garden to see how rainwater harvesting is utilized in the herb garden and pawpaw orchard.
