Social Services distributes fans

Forsyth County Department of Social Services distributed 189 fans as part of Operation Fan Heat Relief.

Fans were distributed to Forsyth County adults who are age 60 and older, or who have a disability, with a home situation where a threat to health and well-being exists. Due to the limited number of fans, residents registered for them in advance and picked their fans up at Social Services. DSS staff delivered fans to those who couldn’t pick them up.

Operation Fan Heat Relief (OFHR), is a summer program intended to provide a more comfortable living environment and reduce heat related illnesses. The program is funded by the Piedmont Triad Regional Council’s Area Agency on Aging (through a contribution from Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress). Fans were also donated by Centenary United Methodist Church and purchased using Forsyth County funds.
