County Commissioners broke ground on the new Highland Avenue Park on August 1.
Located at the corner of Fifth Street and Highland Avenue, the park will be on a 1.25-acre piece of land on the edge of the Forsyth County Health and Human Services Campus. It will have a basketball half-court, a pickleball court, an open grass play area and approximately 1,400 linear feet of accessible concrete walkaways. Play features will include a standard swing set, a sensory climbing dome and an all-inclusive accessible merry-go-round and swing.
It will have picnic tables under a bandshell with an outdoor grill. The picnic tables can be moved, so the lighted bandshell can accommodate events, with space in front of it for accessible and standard seating along with a small restroom facility and food truck access nearby.
The new park is part of renovations on the Health and Human Services Campus and its construction is funded with money from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The park is expected to be completed in early 2025.
